Assessment evaluation & Peer reviw

The timed assessment for me went better than I planned and expected it to which is always a big plus. I was really nervous about the eyeliner which is usually what I struggle with but managed to complete it better than I expected to. I really liked how the blue and pink accents on the eyes stood out really well on Giorgia as she has darker skin to mine and I had only tested the product out against my skin before the assessment. I enjoyed putting the outfit together to imitate Christopher Kanes clothing from the catwalk with a jacket I bought and some fabric from Fabric Land. I really liked the catwalk image I shot in the studio as well as I felt the lighting made it look like a proper backstage image.

I was really pleased with my model as she is very confident in front of the camera and I think she suits Christopher Kanes aesthetic a lot as she can pull off the edgy style whilst still looking like a professional model. Her skin was flawless and her face is very symmetrical which helped as my look was a perfect, illuminated base with a striking eye look. Although she turned up a little late for the assessment she had no makeup on, clean knot-free hair ready to begin straight away and was a dream to apply makeup on and style her hair.

I asked Giorgia to write a little review on her experience modelling for me and she wrote me this lovely note back for my blog!:
"It was a great experience working with Ruby Harrison for her Christopher Kane inspired shoot. She was very prepared and had all the right equipment to create the perfect look. Ruby took the time to get the right shade for my skin, which is difficult as i have quite a dark, yellowy skin tone and a lot of people i have modelled for have asked me to bring my own make-up! She made me feel very comfortable on arrival and was great at making conversation, her make-up kit was lovely and clean and she followed the correct hygiene procedure. I would definitely like to work with Ruby again she did an amazing job."

It is really nice to see such positive feedback, I am glad Giorgia enjoyed being my model as I would love for her to model for me again and I am glad she felt comfortable, clean and was happy with my professionalism.

Hair inspiration for Christopher Kane look

After having a look through the hair trends I have decided on some sort of low, neat ponytail. Here are a few images I found on Pinterest that I liked:

From what I have seen on the catwalks low ponytails of many sorts are very on trend but I really like the above two styles I have seen on Pinterest that I would like to try out.
As on the Christopher Kane catwalk the models had their hair mostly down or in low basic ponytails with a unbrushed, unwashed finish. I would like mine to be clean, sleek, neat with a detailed secured finished like with the above two ponytails. Here are some images of the hair styles at the Christopher Kane show that I am talking about.

I have also purchased some glow stick necklaces which I want my models to wear around their necks in a similar way to how Christopher Kane had his models wear cable ties as I want it to still have a very Christopher Kane feel to the look. I think glow sticks and the colours they are available in will really compliment the edgy, bold, contemporary collection.

Inspiration collage for Christopher Kane catwalk shoot

I want to focus on colour and texture in this look while keeping it quite simple so that it compliments, but doesn't over shadow the clothing. I am thinking of having wet, glossy lips and clumpy, spidery eyelashes as the main part of the look teamed with well groomed brows and flawless, glowing skin. I am also looking into a simple graphic liner shape to go with the clumpy eyelashes in the same shade of electric blue. I have looked at the colours in the clothes of the catwalk show and have decided electric blue and bright, bubblegum pink will look great together and match the garments. The eyes will be following the blue eye make-up trend seen all over the catwalks at SS16 Fashion Week.

My first catwalk shoot - Christopher Kane's SS16 collection

I have chosen to design my first catwalk look for Christopher Kanes SS16 show as I love the colours and patterns on the clothing in the collection and I am a fan of his work. As the models make-up was very minimal in this show, it gave me the opportunity to design completely from scratch and to be as creative and free as I want to be drawing inspiration from the outfits showcased on the runway. I thought of loads of ideas that I could do to create a really bright, fun face chart that would go with the aesthetic of this collection really well.
My first thoughts when seeing this collection is that I want to focus on colour mostly in my designs, then texture secondly.
I would describe this collection as fun, bright, bold, postmodern and use of mismatched textures and materials.
Here are some of my favourite outfits from the show:
