Whilst doing my research into NARS advertising I had a look through the editorial images as well that I found with the adverts which are easily available online and all photographs are taken by Francois Nars himself which is why I think they are so great. He knows exactly what he wants the images to look like with his vision so he creates it himself.

NARS - Key models

Mariacarla Boscono

Maria Boscono is a 35 year old model from Italy who was discovered at the age of 17 by a family friend who was a photographer. After Boscono finished school she moved to New York to pursue her modelling career and was signed by DNA Model Management. It didn't take long before Maria became an internationally known model, walking in all the runways and a firm favourite of Karl Lagerfeld. She has worked for NARS cosmetics, H&M, Prada, Chanel, Moschino, Givenchy, Hermes, YSL, Dolce & Gabbana, Marc Jacobs, John Galliano, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Barneys New York, DKNY and Missoni just to name a well known few which is clearly a very impressive list! It doesn't surprise me that she has been on the Worlds 15 Top Earning Supermodels. As well as modelling she has also had a go at theatre in New York.

I first recognised Mariacarla Boscono from the most recent NARS advertising campaign for the Velvet Matte Skin Tint SS16:

After doing some research into previous NARS adverts I realised that SS16 wasn't the first time Francois Nars had used Maria as a model for his collections.

This advertisement reminded me somewhat of the current trends for SS16 showcased on the catwalks with the bright cobalt blue eyes which were seen on many of the Spring ready-to-wear shows this year in very similar styles to this campaign. Also Maria's hair appears as though it could be in a sleek low ponytail which has been in different forms all over the catwalks this season too. This reminded me that looks and trends continuously come back around.

NARS Velvet Gloss Lip Pencil - A Short Film by Ruth Hogben

While doing some research into NARS adverts, I had a look on SHOWStudio to see if there were any NARS related fashion films and I found this short film made by Ruth Hogben in 2011 in celebration of the launch of the Velvet Gloss Lip Pencil. The model used in this short film is Heather Marks, showcasing all 6 shades of this lip pencil with a clean, young, fresh faced finish so that all the attention is on the mouth. I really liked this film as it is quite edgy but very feminine, soft and it reminds me a lot of Spring with the music, theme, colour schemes, make-up etc. 
I also noticed that it looks vaguely similar to the SS16 NARS campaign images for Velvet Matte Skin Tint due to the pinky hues, minimal make-up look, natural, feeling of fresh Spring air. Obviously the difference is that the Ruth Hogben film is focusing on the lips and the new NARS campaign is focusing on the skin.

NARS hero products

On the NARS website there is a 'Bestsellers' section which has a drop down menu with different categories which show their iconic products, award winners, winning ranges etc. which I found really useful and easily accessible when trying to find this information out. This means for someone new looking into purchasing NARS products they can go straight to there most famous products that are loved by all and old NARS customers as a perfect starting point. The best sellers section shows the Award Winners, the Orgasm Collection, Cult Classics and 413 BLKR.
