Advert 1 - Laguna Liquid Bronzer

Laguna Liquid Bronzer is part of Nars Tahiti Bronze Collection. As summer is coming up I wanted to do a more natural, summery make-up look so thought that an advert look for one of the amazing Nars bronzing products would be a perfect way to really get to create a perfect, dewy, glowing makeup look for my portfolio. I will be looking for a model with dark colouring, olive skin and a natural beauty to suit the look I am going for with this advert.

The Laguna Liquid Bronzer is described in colour as 'Brown with golden shimmer' on the Nars website and is a liquid take on the iconic Laguna powder bronzer. "Sheer and ultra-versatile, this weightless innovation contours, bronzes, and blends effortlessly. Create any effect under the sun by wearing bare or mixing with makeup for an allover, healthy-looking glow." - Narscosmetics.co.uk
The fact that this product is a liquid form enticed me towards it much more than a powder bronzer as I feel that you could get a much more natural and glowy finish by using a liquid than a powder. Which coverage described as 'weightless' and 'sheer' brings to mind a buildable colour depending on the models skin tone, dewy and lit from within finish as if the model has a healthy glow due to being on a lovely holiday. The Laguna Liquid Bronzer is part of the Tahiti Bronze Collection, the only collection one would need for the perfect, healthy, sun-kissed face and body featuring the liquid bronzer, powder bronzer, two body oils and a candle. The Laguna Liquid Bronzer retails at £26.50.

I love that Nars usually have tutorial videos with advice on how to use their products to get the best and desired finish and the way to get the real Nars look created by their amazing artists. I watched the tutorial for the Laguna Liquid Bronzer to see how the pro's use this product and what finish I will need to be aspiring to, to create an advert as best suited to Nars as a brand and to the product I am selling as I can.

I also found this video online which shows the shoot for the Tahiti Bronze Collection in action, the make-up and hair look, the model posing etc. which is good inspiration for the style I should lean towards for my Laguna Liquid Bronzer advert:

Here is the main advert photo for the Tahiti Bronze Collection as a whole, there isn't a singular advert for each product in the collection just this one photo to advertise the whole aesthetic of the products used together.

Advert 1 & editorial 1 model - Sophie Viljoen

I chose Sophie to be my model for my first advert as she has naturally very clear, flawless, dark olive skin and looks really lovely with more natural looking make-up on which is perfect for my advert for the Nars Laguna Liquid Bronzer as to really show off the product the look I will be creating will be all about the glowing, sun-kissed skin and minimal make-up everywhere else to highlight the summer, beach ready face. Sophies hair is dark, thick and long with a natural wave and I think this will look lovely down with a fresh blow dry, keeping it wavy to maintain the summer, natural, beach vibe I'm going for.

I am also using Sophie for one of my editorials which will be a more edgy shoot due to it being for the NARS and Christopher Kane collaboration for the collection last summer which will be very different to a NARS own advert. Sophie is such a good model because her look is so versatile and I think she will really suit the Christopher Kane editorial too.

Advert 1 - Inspiration

For my shoot I wanted to make sure I had a goal of what kind of image I wanted as I always struggle with lighting set ups and model direction so I wanted to get prepared. I did some searching for images and adverts that I liked the look of and found these two photos:

Although the position of the model is similar in both, I really love the pose in the first image and this is something similar to what I will be trying to achieve in my advert shoot, however in my actual shoot I want the lighting to be more similar to the sec ond image and I think the way the lighting hits off the models glowing skin is really flattering and would really help sell the liquid bronzer as a product. In my image I want the model to be doing similar poses to these images but I want the main lighting to be coming from the right hand side with a soft box high up so it is as if the sun is shining down on my model and I want the model to be looking up towards the light as if to be looking up at the sun on a beautiful day with her gorgeous tanned skin glowing.

Editorial 1 - Final image

Close up images of makeup for editorial 1 shoot

I thought I would include some images I took while shooting of the makeup close up as my final image only shows the look from one side.

Editorial 1 - Evaluation

I am so please with how this image came out. Its really different from all my other images which I wanted, I really enjoyed designing the makeup and the shoot went really smoothly. Usually the shooting I find most stressful but this time it was really enjoyable and I found the lighting set up much easier with a colourful background. I went for the close up side on image as because the shoot is inspired by a makeup collection I thought the makeup should be a very key focus of the image which is why I chose this image. My model also has a really lovely side profile which I wanted to show off. I think the pink background compliments the styling, makeup and hair and makes it so eye catching. I think this shoot combines aspects from NARS and Christopher Kane which I am pleased about.
